     Destination Imagination

The Martin Luther King Jr., Middle School's Destination Imagination Team "D.I. amonds in the Rough" competed In the 2016 Destination Imagination Global Finals on May 25-28, 2016 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. More than 1,400 teams from 21 countries showcased their creative talent and skills. Each team chose 1 challenge from 6 possible choices. MLK’s D.I. amonds in the Rough chose a technical challenge called "Pace of Change". In this challenge the team had to build a vehicle that could carry at least one team member across the presentation site, multiple times, while also having to change the vehicle propulsion system and the vehicle movement. In addition, the team had to create and present a story about change that showcased their interests, skills, strengths, and talents. Seventy eight teams across the globe completed in this particular challenge at the middle school level. The competition was extremely tough and we are proud that our DI Team scored 3rd in the Instant Challenge, which was 24% of their score, and 23rd out of 78 competing schools. Congratulations to the DI Team: Evelyn Bah, Haley Bateman, Kenny Graninger, Marcus Jones, Amy Lepore, Rahel Mani, Michael Stroud. Special thanks to Coach Bateman and staff sponsors, Mrs.Goodridge and Ms. Johnson and to the students’ families who accompanied them to Tennessee. This was a once in a life time experience for our students and we look forward to next years’ competition and challenges.
