Welcome Back to the 2018-19 school year at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School

    Dear MLK Community:

It’s that time of year again and I can’t wait to welcome every child and staff member back to our building for what I know will be a great year for our school community. This last year was the most amazing learning experience for me as a new principal and I am excited to open the doors to our school and leverage what I have learned to enhance both the teaching and learning experience for each of our students.

We look forward to opening the year with a commitment from every family to collaborate with us to ensure the success of every child. Part of that commitment involves collaboration with every family and community partners-both new and old. We have been so fortunate to have an active PTO and PTO executive board to support our efforts,  but we can always do an even better job. Toward that end, I hope that each parent and teacher will consider joining our PTO this year so that we can make our students and ourselves #PGCPS PROUD. It is only with the help of parents and teachers that the good news of all that is happening at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School can be shared. With our Back to School Night scheduled for September 25th at 6:30 pm, we hope that you will join us and leverage this event as an opportunity to stop by and meet with the PTO to learn more about their aims to support our amazing school.

With a focus on providing rigorous programming, while nurturing the interests of our students, we are pleased to offer Dance to our 6th grade students this year as a creative arts option. In addition to our rich core offerings (Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies), we look forward to having a strategic focus on growing a premier Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program that will enhance skills in organization, writing and communication strategies that support our students’ high school readiness goals as well as their college or career readiness goals. We also look forward to continuing to offer a diverse roster of extracurricular activities and sports so that there is something for everyone.

While many things have changed over the course of the last year, one thing remains unchanged and that is our unwavering commitment to being the best partner to our families in support of our students.

We welcome your feedback, questions, and suggestions to enhance learning for your child.

We look forward to your support in ensuring that every child is #PGCPSPROUD to be an MLK Cobra.
