• Waters of Life & Death (6th grade)

     water life death1

This “activity before content” (ABC) program prepares students for units covering earth and environmental science, while also reviewing and extending learning on physical and chemical properties of matter. Through inquiry-based activities, students analyze tap water as a mixture that contains naturally present minerals and gases, as well as additives and organisms. Water’s physical and chemical properties are studied toward distinguishing water from other clear liquids, and understanding how water supports life. Seventh and eighth graders delve more deeply into investigations that distinguish different types of water and recognition of positive and negative human impacts on groundwater. Related career opportunities are explored.
