POSITION SUMMARY:Under the supervision of the Director of Equity, Diversity and Belonging, the Diversity Strategy Officer is responsible for systemic initiatives and programs in support of the strategic plan that promote instructional equity and create diverse and inclusive environments for employees and students. Responsibilities include the recruitment and retention of employees from diverse backgrounds, with a focus on Hispanic employees, and with an emphasis on increasing diversity to align more closely with student diversity demographic data, as well as eliminating opportunity gaps for students. The incumbent of this position serves as a liaison to develop partnerships with the community and other organizations that support strategic initiatives to correct disproportional challenges impacting students and staff. The Diversity Strategy Officer leads the development of a vision and effective strategies to create a culture for equity, diversity and inclusion. The incumbent will collaborate with stakeholders to assess the need for, and recommend professional development initiatives on cultural competency and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provides
leadership for and coordinates the development of a strategic diversity, equity
and inclusion plan; leads systemic initiatives that prioritize diversity,
equity and inclusion; Collaborates
with staff to ensure that culturally responsive practices are reflected in
educational opportunities for students and in recruitment and retention
strategies for staff with a focus on Hispanic employees; Provides
systemic diversity, equity and inclusion professional learning, with an
emphasis on cultural responsiveness, for staff and students; Develops
and implements effective strategies and initiatives to promote diversity,
equity and belonging, student achievement and address issues of
disproportionality; assists with the creation and implementation of school
system branding and marketing campaigns; Coordinates
and guides efforts to define, understand, assess, foster and cultivate
diversity, equity and belonging; Creates
and oversees programs, services and initiatives designed to enhance the
recruitment and retention of staff reflective of the surrounding community
demographics; Assesses
potential barriers and works to develop new and innovative ways to evaluate and
continually improve processes to deliver high quality diverse candidates
through diversity initiatives; Partners
and collaborates with division and school system departments to assess the
alignment of strategic plans to ensure that diversity, equity and belonging are
prioritized to meet the needs of students and staff; Prepares
and presents specialized data and reports; collects and analyzes related data
and makes data-driven decisions to define or refine strategies and plans around
areas of opportunity in response to data; Serves as
liaison with both internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and develop
partnerships and advisory committees to promote diversity, equity and
belonging; Keeps
abreast of current local, state and national education development in the areas
of school effectiveness and reform; and Performs
other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Bilingual
in English and Spanish in reading, writing, speaking and listening preferred; Ability
to analyze issues, shift priorities and cope with ambiguity in a fast-paced
environment; Fully
informed and knowledgeable of recruitment, onboarding and retention issues in
K-12 organizations; Ability
to review, recommend and implement policies and/or strategies that address
challenges related to diversity, belonging, student achievement
disproportionality and instructional inequity; Ability
to make data driven decisions; strong analytical skills that inform problem
solving and decision making capacity; Ability
to communicate effectively and convey reliable accurate information so that the
recipient clearly understands its intent; Use of
appropriate written, verbal or electronic communication formats to disseminate
information; Proficient
in a variety of technologies for data collection and reporting (i.e., social
media, applicant tracking systems, Microsoft Office suite and internet); Ability
to travel locally, nationally and internationally; frequent travel required; Proficient
in the use and application of cross-cultural communication skills; and Ability
to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school
officials, employees, outside agencies and the general public.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, social work, human resources or a related field with coursework in diversity, equity and/or inclusion required. A minimum of five (5) years of successful experience driving innovation in support of the recruitment, development and inclusion of personnel who come from diverse backgrounds. Previous experience in a public school system is preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees and provides guidance to personnel as needed.
