POSITION SUMMARY:The Academic Dean – Immersion Program will collaborate with administrators, educators and parents to ensure that all students are successful in becoming bilingual and biliterate with cross-cultural competencies. The incumbent of this position is responsible for assisting educators with appropriate methodology, current teaching strategies and content infusion. The Academic Dean – Immersion Program coaches educators and provides resource assistance to stakeholders in the Immersion Program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Observes, monitors and assists in
immersion classroom instruction, including providing formal and informal
observations; Provides appropriate strategies to new
and tenured teachers in the immersion program; conducts in-service programs
focusing on effective instructional strategies; Plans and implements ongoing in-house
and systemic staff development in conjunction with the Immersion Programs
Office based on assessed needs of immersion educators; Assists with monitoring the immersion programs
in the assigned school; assists with enrollment study and other analyses of
data; Creates, develops and assists with
curriculum documents for the immersion program; Observes and provides assistance to
educators with classroom instruction, organization and management; Engages in collaborative planning with
other disciplines in support of state and county assessments; Provides demonstration lessons for
educators and provides hands-on coaching and actionable feedback; Maintains and monitors catalog of
materials provided by the Immersion Programs Office; Serves as an active member of the school
leadership team to support school-wide success and attends meetings as
necessary; and Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Native or near native speaker of the
language of the assigned immersion program; Strong instructional, classroom
management and discipline skills; Extensive knowledge of the school
system’s instructional and supervision practices and trends; Demonstrated expertise and experience
relevant to the design and implementation of immersion programs; Experience in collaborative planning and
providing professional development; Extensive knowledge and experience with
Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as familiarity with Google Docs,
Sheets and Slides; Excellent interpersonal/human relations
skills; and Demonstrated excellent oral and written
communication skills in required language(s).
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, with an emphasis in supervision, educational administration or elementary/secondary school curriculum required. A minimum of four (4) years of successful teaching and/or teacher leadership experience in an immersion program required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Maryland Professional Certificate with Administrator I endorsement required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Evaluates and supervises school staff and operations in the absence of the Principal.
