POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Assistant Supervisor of Garage Operations, the Automotive Information Technology Coordinator is responsible for managing the mobile electronics technology infrastructure thereby using the full potential of equipment and associated software, increasing the safety and security for pupils and associates operating within a pupil transportation and support services fleet environment. This position is mobile requiring the use of a service vehicle to travel between transportation and support services facilities throughout the school district. The employee in this class is responsible for managing the technology infrastructure, which includes various vehicle information systems utilized in the school system fleet. The position is assigned to the Division of Supporting Services, Transportation/Central Garage Services Department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Implements, directs and executes
programs hands-on for the maintenance of surveillance, GPS and communication
equipment with measurable results; Manages vendor relationships to maintain
ongoing service programs, parts inventory, advance replacement units,
associated firmware, relevant changes in vehicle architecture and new product
developments; Installs and manages inventory of mobile
electronics equipment as required with the ability to manage multiple projects
simultaneously within strict timelines; Provides support to various school
system administrative supervisors and staff in order to maintain end user
efficiency; Assists in the procurement of mobile
safety and security electronics to maximize investments in mobile technology; Participates in mentoring new Automotive
IT Technicians and Automotive Trades Helpers; Creates and provides training programs
and provides technical support for the benefit of the school system staff; and Preforms other related duties as
assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Thorough
knowledge of 12 and 24 VDC electrical systems and multiplexed topology in type
A, B, C, D and multi-functional school buses; Thorough
knowledge of applicable mechanical systems in type A, B, C, D and
multi-functional school buses; Thorough
knowledge of digital surveillance, routing and GPS software; Knowledge
of OEM production cycles, delivery and scheduling; Possesses tools
necessary to perform within the assignment; Maintain
a high proficiency in Microsoft operating systems and MS Office; Maintain
effective human relations skills; good oral and written communication skills Minimum
three years of experience installing integrated electronic systems in all types
of vehicles; Minimum
three years of experience managing service employees, suppliers and
subcontractors; and Minimum
three years of experience directing mobile electronics installation utilizing a
staged process.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma required with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the automotive information technology field that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; and experience as a journeyman automotive information technology technician including some experience in an administrative, supervisory or management capacity.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle License with a driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class "B" with endorsements "P" (Passenger) and "S" (School Bus) required or the ability to obtain within the probationary period for new employees or within 6 months of obtaining the position for current PGCPS employees; CDL Class "A" with "P" (Passenger) and "S" (School Bus and Air Brake) preferred. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications are strongly encouraged.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises the work of Central Garage Services personnel grades 10 through 19 as assigned.
