POSITION SUMMARY:This is semi-skilled work in the operation of rear and front-loading refuse packers, dump trucks, and other similar or related power equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Operating
a sanitation truck with packer and following an established route in the
pick-up of refuse; Receiving
and relaying to supervisor complaints with respect to trash pickup; Performing
preventive maintenance service to packer unit which includes cleaning of unit; Operating
a dump truck which will involve hauling and placing maintenance materials; Operating
dump truck with snow plow or other snow removal equipment; Participating
with a construction or maintenance crew in the leveling, preparation, seeding
and other operations necessary for the construction and maintenance of
playground and athletic fields; and Assisting crew with clearing timber or bush,
loading and unloading waste materials, construction and maintenance materials
and equipment and supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS Ability
to work evening and night shifts as necessary to resolve snow emergency
situation; Working
knowledge of the operation and maintenance of various trucks (refuse, dump,
crew van-type and pickup, utility tractors and/or other similar or related
equipment; Working
knowledge of hazards and related safety precautions involved in their
operation; and Ability
to operate equipment skillfully and safely.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited high school with a diploma or equivalent; some experience in the operation of various trucks or related maintenance equipment.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (Class A- Restricted Commercial Driver’s License) with a driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
