POSITION SUMMARY:The Adolescent Single Parent Liaison is responsible for implementing a quality Adolescent Single Parent Program (ASPP) by which pregnant and parenting students have adequate access to child rearing information, training, resources and support.  The incumbent of this position will work to provide services to all pregnant and parenting students in their assigned school clusters throughout the district and will assist in the creation and implementation of individualized program plans for pregnant and parenting students.  Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed in terms of the accomplishment of objectives.    

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides individual counseling for teens and conducts outreach/home visits as necessary;

Assists and instructs teen parents in developing child care techniques which will promote maximum physical, emotional, social and mental development for their individual child;

Conducts regular school visits to assess pregnant and parenting students’ needs;

Monitors the attendance and grades of the assigned students every two weeks to proactively identify needs for support;

Consistently collaborates with Professional School Counselors, Pupil Personnel Workers (PPW), and service providers to ensure pregnant and parenting students have adequate access to resources and support services as needed;

Assists parenting students with submitting applications to various agencies for related services;

Submits referrals to the Department of Social Services and other agencies on behalf of teen parents as needed;

Provides crisis intervention for teen parents; makes referrals as necessary;

Identifies resources for teen parents and their families;

Tracks and maintains documentation and records of students and submits quarterly reports as required;

Acts as a liaison between teen parents and school staff when necessary; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Adept interpersonal skills;

Ability to effectively deescalate problematic situations;

Knowledge of conflict management and resolution strategies;

High level of social and emotional intelligence;

Knowledge of trauma informed strategies for adolescents;

Good knowledge of modern principles and practices in directing a counseling program for high risk teens;

Ability to successfully handle a variety of diversified tasks associated with planning and administering an effective and responsive counseling and crisis intervention program;

Knowledge of community resources;

Ability to act as liaison with families, school staff, and community agencies;

Good oral and written communication skills;

Ability to maintain central record system and to prepare reports for research data; and

Ability to work effectively with personnel both internal and external to the school system.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma required; Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in counseling, psychology, social work or a related area preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with teen parents and their families.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct supervisory responsibilities.
