The holidays are approaching and what better gift to give than that of good attendance?

Did you know that each year, student absences spike the weeks before and after the holidays as families attempt to squeeze in extra vacation days?

Remember that 'a few missed days here and there' — even if excused absences — add up to lost learning time and can put your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.

Our goal is for students to be in school every day and on track to graduation, but excessive absences affect student academic success.

The holidays are an important time for reconnecting and travel, but keep in mind the consequences for too much missed school — and the message you are sending about the importance of attendance.

Teachers will be teaching and students will be learning right up until the first day of winter break.

So this holiday season, give your child a gift that will keep giving with much reward: the gift of good attendance!
