Plug into Census 2020, civics and your creativity by submitting your best 30-second public service announcement on why it's critical for families to complete their census forms! 

Who Can Enter: PGCPS middle school and high school students (grades 6-12) — individuals or groups — can enter the PGCPS Census 2020 PSA Contest to help promote the importance of full Prince George’s County participation in the U.S. Census.

How to Enter: Participating students or groups must create a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) promoting the importance of full Prince George’s County participation in the upcoming U.S. Census.

Contest Deadline: Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on March 11, 2020.

  • Individual and group entries will be accepted.

  • All entries must be submitted through the portal by the deadline.

  • All students featured in videos must have a completed 2019-20 SY media release form on file with their school. 

Judging Criteria

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

  1. Originality and creativity [10 points] (Is the PSA unique and creative?)

  2. PSA concept [10 points] (Does the PSA clearly educate and accurately address the contest topic—to help promote the importance of full Prince George’s County participation in the 2020 U.S. Census?)

  3. Resonance of message [10 points] (How effectively does the PSA highlight timely, key issues and current events to convey the message and move viewers to action?)

  4. Relevance to Prince George’s County and PGCPS [10 points] (How does the PSA appeal specifically and uniquely to Prince George’s County demographics/students?)

Incentives and Prizes

  • All entrants in grades 9-12 can earn Service Learning Hours for time spent creating their PSA outside of regular school hours.

  • Individual winning submissions from students in grades 6–8 and 9-12 will receive a prize, certificate of participation and feature on the PGCPS website and social media.

  • Group winning submissions from students in grades 6–8 and 9-12 will receive a group prize, certificate of participation and feature on the PGCPS website and social media

  • Winners will be invited to take masterclasses with local filmmakers at the PGCPS Film Festival Showcase on March 28, 2020 at Charles H. Flowers High School and will have their PSA shown at the event!
