Parent-teacher conferences are a great way for parents to stay involved and informed of what’s going on in the classroom. Check out these tips on how to make the most of one-on-one time with teachers!

Before the Conference

  • Talk to your child about how they feel about class and if there’s anything they would like you to discuss with their teacher.

  • Review your child’s assignments and report card and note areas for improvement.

  • Prepare notes of things you’d like to discuss.

Day-of the Conference

  • Arrive on time.

  • Bring your notes and questions.

  • Be an active listener.

  • Ask for specific ways your child can improve and resources to help.

  • Don’t forget to tell teachers “thank you!” Make it a point to mention a time you appreciated their assistance or noticed growth in your child academically.

  • Leave with action items.

After the Conference

  • Discuss action items with your child to promote positive outcomes.

  • Check your child’s grades regularly for timely course correction and follow-up.
