Following a student's absence from school, please send a handwritten note to the school with your child. Parents/guardians can use this template to submit a note. You can also email a note or document from a doctor to our registrar, Catalina Quinteros, at catalina.quinteros@pgcps.org. Doctor's notes can be faxed to the school at 301-985-1499.

PGCPS has requirements for legal (excused) absences. They include:

    • Death in the immediate family (parent or guardian, brother, sister, or grandparent.)
    • Illness of the student (or doctor's appointment)
    • Court summons
    • Observance of a religious holiday
    • School suspension
    • Health exclusion

There are selected other explanations that qualify as legal excuses. The full PGCPS Administrative Procedure is located at this link.
    • Students who are considered lawfully absent from school or a class will have the opportunity to make up missed assignments for credit.
    • Students who are considered unlawfully absent from a school or a class will not have the opportunity to make up missed assignments and will receive zeros for missed work.
