POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs
general semi-skilled manual work in the trimming and shaping of trees; does
related work as required.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Completing
work orders:
Traveling
to work location by truck;
Climbing
trees as necessary to cut away dead and diseased wood;
Removing
trees from areas which are not in close proximity to power lines and buildings;
Topping,
shaping, thinning and pruning trees;
Operating
trucks and driving to and from work sites and hauling wood;
Operating
and performing minor maintenance or hand and power equipment such as power
saws, chippers, hand saws, pruning hooks, earth auger, etc.; and
Keeping
all climbing equipment in safe working condition and keeping chain saws
sharpened.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Some knowledge of common
methods, skill s and practices used in trimming and removing trees;
Working knowledge of the
operation and care of required equipment, hazards involved and necessary safety
precautions;
Ability to climb trees;
Ability to understand and
follow simple verbal and written instructions;
Willingness to work
outside under varying working conditions; and
Must be able to stand
heights.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of a standard grade school course is
preferred; some experience in tree trimming, tree removal work, operation of
trucks and other tree removal equipment; or any equivalent combination of
experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and
abilities.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an
appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (Class A
restricted commercial) with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current
points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result
of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle
(see Prince George’s County Public Schools’ Bulleting P-1-88 dated July 21,
1987).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
