POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor - Maintenance, the Sheet Metal Roofing Repairer I performs skilled and work in maintenance and repair of roofs and installation of related sheet metal fixtures.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Receiving work orders and assigning specific jobs on work location;

Clearing affected surface, filling cracks or holes with cement, membrane covers, hot pitch, and covering entire area with slag;

Making necessary repairs to severely damaged roofs;

Rebuilding roofs using base felt, cement, fiberglass mesh, gravel, pitch, slag, shingle, wood, slate and other materials;

Making repairs to damaged sections;

Lays out, cuts, solders and installs gutter, drain sprouts and other sheet metal fixtures;

Replacing plastic domes on roof;

Installing gutter, downspouts and other sheet metal fixtures;

Building, replacing or installing drain pipes, ventilators, air conditioning and heating ducts and related sheet metal products; and

Operating shop tools necessary to fabricate sheet metal objects.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Good knowledge of the methods, safety practices, materials and tools of the roofing and sheet metal trade;

Good knowledge of carpentry and repair procedures used in building roofs;

Ability to work from specifications, blueprints, sketches and oral and written orders;

Ability to supervise and instruct the work of others;

Skill in the care and use of tools, equipment and materials of the trade;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; and

Good physical condition. 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

High School diploma, standard vocational trade school coursework, GED, supplemented by completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the trade, or any combination of full-time experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s license at the time of appointment; and a driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points, which no more than three (3) shall have accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle (see Prince Georges County Public Schools’ Bulletin P-1-88 dated July 21, 1987).


 

 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

Supervises the work of Apprentices and Trades Helpers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
