POSITION SUMMARY:


The Senior Auxiliary Building Supervisor assigns, trains, and supervises auxiliary personnel to substitute for Building Supervisors in schools that are temporarily lacking the manpower to perform this service.  

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Receives all calls requesting substitute Building Supervisors;

Schedules and assigns the auxiliary manpower available according to the degree of need in each plant and the most efficient use of manpower;

Assigns scaffolding when necessary and arranges its timely delivery and pick up;

Provides on the job training and supervision of auxiliary personnel, and confers with them regarding any problems encountered at their work location;

Oversees any unusual overtime which may be necessary during the school year, such as cleaning schools for dedications, special meetings, vandalism,  etc.;

Schedules utilization of central office snow removal equipment;

Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment used by the department and recommends new or replacement items;

Supervises additional employees during the summer months in the proper cleaning procedures;

Schedules and assigns trained employees to do stripping, sanding, sealing and refinishing operations on gym floors in the summer;

Maintains daily time sheets on the employees under supervision, and approves leave with a view to maintaining a basic work force available for all contingencies;

Completes performance evaluations on all auxiliary personnel under the supervisor; and

Performs other duties as assigned.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle (see Prince George’s County Public School’s Bulletin A-26-85 dated October 8, 1984) ;

Advanced knowledge of methods, materials and practices used in building cleaning work and in the proper use and care of mops, brooms, scrubbing brushes, floor waxing machines and related equipment; 

Knowledgeable in the safe and efficient procedures of operating central heating plants; 

Ability to plan and schedule personnel to work at the appropriate facility ensuring all buildings are operational; and

Ability to direct the activities of a large number of subordinate personnel. 

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Completion of a standard high school diploma or GED, required.  A minimum of five (5) years of building supervisory experience.

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Possession of a certificate of completion of training courses prescribed by the Department of Plant Operations.

 

 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

Some supervisory and training responsibilities are required.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to perform extensive walking, stooping, pushing, carrying, climbing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs. independently, and have the ability to exert force required to twist/turn equipment/tools required to perform assigned tasks. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
