POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the
Principal, the Scheduler/Classroom Teacher will be responsible for building and
maintaining the school-based master schedule and working with school
administration to create a structure to maximize teaching assignments, align
the master schedule with school performance goals, use data to drive student
schedule creation and monitor class size to minimize large class sizes. The incumbent of this position will also
coordinate all of the daily scheduling expectations and implement practices in
adherence with administrative grading procedures for new and existing students.
This position will also provide
instruction for students by developing, selecting, and modifying instructional
plans and materials, and presenting them using instructional techniques, which
meet the needs of students. The Scheduler/Classroom Teacher will be expected to
work as a classroom teacher for half (0.5) of the master schedule and a scheduler
for the other half (0.5) of the master schedule.

Scheduler
Works
closely with school based administrators, school counselors, testing coordinators,
teaching staff and central office personnel to create and maintain a
data-driven master schedule that aligns with the school’s performance plan,
maximizes teaching assignments, creates equity for all students and complies
with the established timelines;
Monitors
schedule changes and grade changes to ensure students are receiving credit in
all mandatory areas of a well-rounded curriculum;
Enters
master schedule into the SchoolMax operating system and ensures every student
is accurately scheduled and all errors and conflicts are resolved in the schedules;
Plans
and conducts staff development activities within the school to provide an
opportunity for all stakeholders to discuss program requirements in all areas
to ensure the schedule is comprehensive, inclusive and supports all student
learners;
Facilitates
scheduling meetings and attends monthly PGCPS scheduling meetings; facilitates
articulation meetings with grade-level and creative arts teams;
Meets
with Principal to discuss staffing, budget and projected enrollment; develops
academic scheduling and creative arts scheduling grid;
Creates
data sheets, course selection forms and/or Google docs as needed to support the
creation of the master schedule;
Trains
staff (administrators, counseling staff, educators) in the use of SchoolMax
resources to ensure accuracy; supports and monitors accurate school based
grading procedures;
Surveys
staff for scheduling feedback;
Coordinates
with receiving school schedulers to provide information for incoming students
and their course selections when appropriate; and
Performs
other duties as assigned.
Classroom Teacher
Establishes clear goals and objectives
related to the School Improvement Plan;
Plans and prepares lessons, assignments
and instructional materials;
Establishes learning objectives consistent
with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human
growth and development;
Prepares, administers and corrects
evaluations and assessments, and records results;
Selects and uses appropriate
instructional strategies including, but not limited to, lectures, group
discussions, demonstrations, modeling and multimedia teaching aids to present
subject matter to students;
Evaluates student progress using
appropriate assessment techniques;
Maintains order and discipline in the classroom
conducive to effective learning and takes all necessary safety precautions to
protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
Creates a classroom environment that
provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student
to achieve learning objectives;
Counsels pupils when academic and
adjustment problems arise;
Confers with parents and students
regarding progress/problems of assigned students; arranges and participates in
teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary;
Maintains accurate and complete records
as required by law, Board Policy and administrative regulation;
Monitors appropriate use and care of
equipment, textbooks, materials and facilities;
Attends and actively participates in
staff/faculty meetings and provides input regarding the planning of instructional
goals, objectives and methods;
Improves skill and knowledge base in
current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques,
technology, multi-cultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary
connections;
Plans and supervises purposeful
assignments for paraprofessional educators, student teachers, and volunteers;
and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Considerable
knowledge of school system functions, SchoolMax and Apex;
Knowledge
of school organization, goals and objectives, curriculum, teaching techniques,
current trends, research, and materials of instruction in field of
specialization;
Extensive
knowledge of basic software applications (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and
statistical software (i.e., SQL, SPSS, Access, Filemaker Pro);
Experience
in analyzing and interpreting a variety of data sources;
Ability
to organize, interpret and present statistical data to a myriad of users;
Excellent
knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning process;
Ability
to infuse technology into curriculum;
Ability
to collaborate with different school and community stakeholders;
Ability
to schedule and coordinate activities in a timely manner;
Ability
to communicate effectively, orally and in writing;
Experience
in leading school team(s); and
Ability
to work in a team and collaborate with other school-based professionals, as
well as central office personnel.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree or
higher in an applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college
or university required. A minimum of three
(3) years of successful teaching experience required; previous experience as a
school scheduler, data coach or testing coordinator preferred.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds a professional
certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department
of Education.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
