POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the direction of a Chief or an Officer of a division, the Director will be directly responsible for the efficient operation of an organizational unit within the division.  The incumbent in this class is responsible for initiating and developing the overall objectives for their assigned unit, developing an operational framework for the unit, developing a budget based on analysis of needs, and implementing the process and procedures for evaluating programs and personnel in the unit.  Special assignments are received through conferences, written instructions and requests from the Chief/Officer.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Initiate and develop overall  objectives for the unit; assess needs, establish priorities; develop specific objectives and strategies; and implement the process and procedures for the evaluation of each program;

Develop an operational framework for the unit; establish procedures for monitoring its operation and make changes when necessary; maintain effective communication within the unit; develop personnel for maximum effectiveness;

Develop a budget based on an analysis of needs and awareness of availability of resources; develop priorities within budgetary limitations; approve and monitor the expenditure of funds;

Interpret Board policies and procedures to staff and recommend to the Associate Superintendent policies and procedures pertinent to the operation of the unit within the division;

Interpret programs to community groups throughout the County through meetings, bulletins, newsletters, other media;

Attend or conduct system-wide meetings at various levels;

Provide a comprehensive annual report outlining all of the major accomplishments of each entity of the unit; and

Provide assistance to the Associate Superintendent as needed.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Considerable knowledge of public school administration;

Demonstrated leadership and administrative competency;

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills; and

Effective human relations skills.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Master's degree from an accredited college or university with increasingly responsible experience in administration preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


None Required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

Oversees and provides guidance and directions to the unit staff.
