POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent of Supporting
Services, the Director of Sustainability and Resiliency is responsible for
performing all of the necessary assessments and tasks for leading, executing,
promoting, enhancing and embedding the sustainability of Prince George’s County
Public Schools’ (PGCPS) physical plants into the culture of the school
system. The incumbent will work with various PGCPS
departments, as well as state and county agencies to plan for a comprehensive
implementation plan and will provide oversight and support to personnel to ensure
the sustainability and resiliency goals and objectives are met. The Director of Sustainability and Resiliency
serves as the key sustainability advocate and conceptualizes new initiatives
that support identified goals and objectives.
The incumbent of this position is responsible for initiating and developing
the overall objectives for their assigned unit, developing an operational framework
for the unit, developing a budget based on analysis of needs, and implementing
the processes and procedures for evaluating programs and personnel in the unit.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Monitors and ensures the execution
of the PGCPS Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP);
Develops strategies to address
environmental concerns and programs including energy use, resource
conservation, recycling, pollution and carbon reduction, indoor air quality,
and waste elimination;
Creates annual and extended
performance measures, strategic plans and budgets that align with the school
system’s strategic plan and CCAP;
Manages and monitors all aspects of
facility management sustainability, including but not limited to personnel
management, initial and ongoing orientation and training, and supervision of
daily activities;
Defines, analyzes, monitors and
reports sustainability and resiliency related metrics;
Develops and implements strategic
engagement of stakeholders aligned to the outcomes of the CCAP;
Develops robust initiatives which
provide a comprehensive and cohesive conceptualization of the school system’s
strengths, opportunities and strategic direction in improving sustainability
and resiliency efforts;
Assesses,
plans, creates, coordinates and evaluates communication strategies and channels
to improve and enhance communications related to sustainability
and resiliency efforts;
Creates
assessments, prepares reports, and collects and analyzes data to enhance
changes in practice; prepares related documents and
presentations for executive leadership, various offices and strategic partners;
Facilitates
and/or attends meetings with stakeholders and strategic partners in support of
the implementation of sustainability programs and initiatives; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Thorough knowledge of national and regional
sustainability programs;
Ability to establish communication channels for
productive collaboration internally and externally;
Familiar with the US Green Building Council
(USGBC) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) standards;
Ability to drive environmental sustainability
programs throughout the school system;
Ability to build relationships and
collaborate with senior leadership, peers, internal and external stakeholders
and staff at all levels;
Considerable knowledge in budget
development analysis and techniques for managing resources;
Flexibility and ability to adapt to
evolving job roles and diversity of projects; highly self-motivated,
self-directed and attentive to detail;
Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint); and
Superior written and oral
communication skills and ability to intuitively present
and document ideas and concepts to staff, management and stakeholders at all
levels.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering,
environmental science or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. A
minimum of five (5) years of successful experience or training in the field of
facility management sustainability and/or areas of climate adaptation, energy
efficiency and sustainable development required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
LEED Accredited
Professional certification preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees and provides guidance and direction to the unit
staff.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Work schedules may include evenings and weekends. Incumbent may be required to work beyond normal hours with little or no advanced notice. Driver’s License is required inasmuch as there will be a need to travel to sites throughout the school district.
