POSITION SUMMARY:


  The Director of Technology Operation's primary responsibility is to oversee the management and operation of the school system's data centers and various critical information systems.  This individual's primary goals are to assist the Chief Information Officer in strategic planning of Information Technology initiatives; to cooperatively develop the Information Technology disaster recovery plan for the school system; to document all procedures and enforce all security policies regarding information management; and to maintain a service level agreement with the user communities within the organization.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Formulating and deploying long-term strategic plans for acquiring and enabling efficient and cost-effective information systems;

Providing oversight and management for the Technology Operations Department (which consists of Systems and Operations);

Defining and communicating project milestones, service level agreements and resource allocation to the CIO for dissemination to the organization;

Developing and reviewing budgets for the Technology Operations Department and ensuring they comply with stated goals, guidelines, and objectives;

Reviewing performance of Information Technology systems to determine operating costs, productivity levels, and upgrade requirements;

Benchmarking, analyzing, reporting, and making recommendations for the improvement of the Information Technology infrastructure;

Developing bid requirements for all hardware and software upgrades to systems, reviewing bids for compliance with stated requirements, and making the appropriate award;

Developing business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for Information Technology spending and initiatives;

Representing the Division of Information Technology during regularly scheduled Board Meetings and Board Technology Sub-Committee Meetings;

Directing research on potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives, opportunities, and procurement efforts;

Developing and implementing Information Technology policies and procedures for system architecture, security, disaster recovery, and information standards;

Overseeing negotiation and administration of vendor, outsourcer, consultant contracts and service agreements;

Managing Information Technology staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions of the Technology Operations Department; and

Establishing and maintaining regular written and in-person communications with department heads and end users regarding pertinent Information Technology activities.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Experience managing an Information Technology Operation complete with data center, critical information systems, backup/recovery planning, and business continuity planning;

Proven experience in Information Technology infrastructure strategic planning;

Good understanding and technical knowledge of current network and computer operating systems, hardware, protocols, and standards;

Strong Leadership Skills;

Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;

Ability to present ideas in business friendly or user-friendly language;

Ability to conduct and direct research into Information Technology issues and products;

Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail;

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment; and

Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Information Management or Computer related field or equivalent experience, Computer Certifications, and Project Management

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

Oversees and provides guidance and direction to the unit staff.
