POSITION SUMMARY:


  The Diagnostician is responsible for administering and interpreting tests of English language proficiency for language minority students, grades k-12, with subsequent recommendation of appropriate English class placement or language instructional program as appropriate.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Training school staff, volunteers, peer tutors to carry out an English language instructional program for language minority students;

Providing on-going supervision of in-school language instructional programs;

Administering and interpreting exit and end-of-year English language proficiency assessments;

Assisting Program Supervisor in the organization and operation of the Language Minority programs;

Providing orientation for newly hired personnel;

Presenting in-service training to facilities and other school system staff; and

Supervising the instructional materials evaluation and purchase process.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Excellent human relations skills;

Effective communication skills; and

Experience in planning and conducting in-service activities.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree and a minimum of five (5) years ESOL teaching experience, K-12 preferred.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Holds or is eligible for a Professional Certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.
