POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under general supervision, performs clerical work involving the data entry. Ensures accuracy of all data entered. The incumbent may be required to maintain associated records and reports.  Work is performed under the direction of a supervisor who plans and assigns work. Work is reviewed for accuracy. After familiarization with the procedures, methods and reports used in the department, employees in this class are expected to exercise some judgment to maintaining the routine flow of work.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Receives, reviews and enters data and source documents into department database;

Prepares and sorts source documents, and identifies and interprets data to be entered;

Contacts providers of source documents to resolve questions, inconsistencies  or missing data;

Data entry of confidential information using the system software;

Enters alphabetic, numeric, or symbolic data from source documents into computer following format displayed on screen, and enters necessary codes;

Compares data entered with source documents, or reenters data in verification format;

Reviews and makes necessary corrections to information entered;

Compiles, sorts, and verifies accuracy of data to be entered;

Assists in establishing and maintaining an effective and efficient records management system;

Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results, as required;

Performs general clerical duties such as filing, answering phones, etc.;

Works on special initiatives that will require travel; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Two or more years of experience in data entry responsibilities;

Good knowledge of general clerical and office procedures and practices;

Ability to follow oral and written directions;

Ability to use non-keyboard forms of data entry, such as scanners and electronically transmitted files;

Ability to interpret work-related materials and written information;

Ability to identify problems and review information;

Ability to follow guidelines and manipulate data in a certain order;

Good knowledge of computer hardware and software;

Strong typing skills; and

Superior computer knowledge including proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required as well.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Graduation from high school or technical school and some experience in the operation of data entry; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
