POSITION SUMMARY:


  Performs a wide variety of advanced technical and administrative duties related to the maintenance, performance, reliability and efficiency of a large, multi-platform of wide area network; assumes a major responsibility for overall effectiveness of major network; hardware and software components, manages research and analysis projects; makes informed recommendations to management.     

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Manages existing computer platforms and software systems;

Analyzes, installs and configures new hardware/software systems;

Monitors and trouble shoots communications in an eclectic WAN environment or mainframe, midrange, desktop, and laptop platforms;

Maintains cross-platform training routine;

Performs database administration;

Consults with and advises application programmers;

Provides informed technical planning and advice to management;

Maintains topical knowledge of technology trends;

Refines and tunes operating systems software; and

Performs related work as required.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Thorough knowledge of large information systems design and procedures;

Considerable experience working with mainframes, midrange, desktop and laptop platforms;

Strong background in network communications;

Knowledge of standard data processing practices and procedures;

Demonstrated ability to perform detailed technical analysis, strong oral and written communications skills;

Effective human relations skills with keen  decision making skills; and

Demonstrated successful experience with Systems/390, VM, VSE, CICS, STAM, DB2, VSAM, RJE, AS/400, OS/400, CA/400, Domino/Lotus Notes, COBOL, Assembler, TCP/IP, HTTP, Frame Relay, PC Operating Systems and Internet/Intranet technologies.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree (Master's preferred) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field and a minimum of four years of successful employment in a demanding technology environment; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities.
