POSITION SUMMARY:


  Specific Tasks or Outcomes Associated: Performs technical and support work in the review, technical selection and performance of the computer hardware and software operation systems for the Department of Transportation. Work involves the analysis of current or proposed systems, determination of systems and hardware interface requirements, and installation of programs required for the operating systems interface. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed in terms of accomplishment of objectives. Assignments are received through conferences, written, instructions/requests affording latitude in independent judgment and action in the performance of duties.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Serves as liaison and point of contact for Transportation Department and the Department of Information Technology regarding purchase, implementation, and maintenance of technology hardware for Transportation Central Office, Bus Lots and Central Garage;

Implements needed data management procedures;

Maintains time lines for new transportation technology projects, develop steps to follow;

Provides daily updates of completed and in process technology and administration support projects;

Prepares project implementation plans;

Establishes technology-networking group;

Creates specifications for, or develops, and implements new data, personnel and property tracking software for Transportation Central Office, Bus Lots and Central Garage;

Maintains Transportation Technology Resource library;

Serves as primary contact with outside private and government organizations regarding all information technology hardware and software systems;

Serves as inside consultant for the Director of Transportation, Supervisor of Garage Operations, Daily Transportation Operations Supervisor and the Transportation Management Analyst
regarding Information Management and Analysis Technology;

Develops specifications for and implementing and maintaining new computer and communication technology hardware for Transportation Central Office, Bus Lots and Central Garage;

Performs related work as required.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Extensive knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Products, with emphasis on Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access;

Demonstrated experience working with personal computer hardware and work stations;

Substantial network navigation, local area networking and Internet connectivity experience required;

Considerable supervisory experience managing large-and-small-scale projects; skill in project assessment especially the operational needs of a multi-task transportation operation;

Demonstrated ability to track multiple projects and re prioritize tasks as task environments change;

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and

Excellent human relations skills

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in computer sciences or related field with (2) two to (5) five years' experience in Oracle or relational database systems, working experience with Microsoft Sequel, and extensive experience interfacing disparate computer systems, and data retrieval from host systems such as Unix/Oracle, and AS400 for extracts; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
