POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the direction of the Principal, the CSEP Coordinator will coordinate the program, including all special education and general education services as they relate to students.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Identifying and assessing the instructional needs, learning styles and appropriate techniques for use with students assigned to the Comprehensive Special Education Program;

Assisting classroom teachers and related services personnel in designing and implementing an individual educational plan for each student;

Coordinating communication within the building with school administrators, families, IEP Team and with the students' base schools, outside agencies, and/or personnel from other programs;

Facilitating inclusive opportunities;

Facilitating the completion of educational assessments and reporting as needed;

Providing in-service opportunities for special education and general education staff members;

Facilitating ongoing parental involvement and participation in the program;

Observing and supervising instructional practices of special education instructional staff;

Assisting school administration in interviewing prospective teachers and paraprofessionals;

Assisting school administration in scheduling of staff and students for the CSEP programs; and

Acting as a full member of the administrative staff with all administrative rights and responsibilities.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Knowledge of special education instructional and diagnostic techniques, management skills and strategies for modifying curriculum;

Effective program planning and organizational skills;

Thorough knowledge of current educational principle, best practices and procedures in special education, staff training instruction, and assessing program needs in the assigned instructional special areas;

Thorough knowledge of Prince George's County Public Schools organization and administration; administration of program of studies, policies, testing practices; and federal and state laws to instructional responsibilities;

Knowledge of state and local standards, MSA and ALT-MSA assessments, national standards, curriculum development, and student program accountability;

Excellent oral and written communication skills; and

Effective human relations and interpersonal skills.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Master's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution; minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience; minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in special education.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Administrator I Certification and Advanced Professional Certification in Special Education.


 

 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.
