POSITION SUMMARY:


  Performs routine clerical and typing duties. Employees in this class performs clerical and typing work which requires little training or on-the-job development, and involves only limited judgment. The work is normally performed under general supervision in accordance with specific procedures and instructions. Detailed instructions and close supervision are provided for new or unusual assignments.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Types letters, memoranda, tabulations, stencils and other material involving simple set-up or standardized formats;

Types prescribed information on form letters, envelopes, cards and folders; types rough drafts from dictating machines;

Performs copy typing from rough draft or clear copy;

Sorts and files correspondence, forms, reports and other materials alphabetically, numerically or by other predetermined classification; maintains simple records;

Compiles prescribed information from readily available sources; operates standard office machines to reproduce copies, make simple arithmetic computations, etc.;

Answers telephone and take messages or refer calls; answers repetitive inquiries or supplies information provided by others;

Proof reads, assembles and prepares material for distribution of filing; and

Perform related duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Some knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic;

Ability to make simple arithmetical computations and tabulations;

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;

Ability to learn assigned tasks readily, to adhere to prescribed routines and to develop some skill in the operation of common office equipment;

Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with others;

Ability to type at the established rate of speed;

Clerical aptitude; and

Good physical condition.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Completion of a standard High School diploma or GED.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
