POSITION SUMMARY:
The
Classroom Teacher – Business Management and Finance plans and provides
appropriate learning experiences for all students and provides an atmosphere
and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional
development of individuals to ensure student success. The teacher develops, selects and modifies
instructional plans and materials, as well as monitors and evaluates student outcomes
and develops and implements plans to improve student performance. The incumbent of this position maintains
required records, follows required procedures and practices, and monitors the
appropriate use and care of equipment and materials. The Classroom Teacher – Business Management and
Finance will prepare students to take and pass industry certification exams.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Establishes clear goals and objectives
related to the School Improvement Plan;
Collaborates with the Business Education
team to coordinate students’ academic, social and emotional progress;
Plans and prepares lessons, assignments,
instructional materials related to the Business Management and Finance Program
of Study;
Creates a classroom environment that
allows for student-driven, project-based learning, provides for student
involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning
objectives;
Establishes both learning and language objectives
consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework and knowledge
of human growth and development;
Prepares, administers and corrects
evaluations and assessments, and records results;
Demonstrates the relevance and
applicability of project-based learning and strong content knowledge with the
ability to infuse business connectivity into all aspects of learning;
Selects and uses appropriate
instructional strategies including, but not limited to, lectures, group
discussions, demonstrations, modeling and multimedia teaching aids to present
subject matter to students;
Maintains order and discipline in the
classroom conducive to effective learning and takes all necessary safety
precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
Confers with parents and students
regarding progress/problems of assigned students; arranges and participates in
teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary; counsels students
when academic and adjustment problems arise;
Maintains accurate and complete records
as required by law, Board Policy and Administrative Procedures;
Monitors appropriate use and care of
equipment, textbooks, materials and facilities;
Attends and actively participates in
staff/faculty meetings and provides input regarding the planning of instructional
goals, objectives and methods;
Improves skill and knowledge base in
current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques,
technology, multicultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary
connections; engages in classroom and school visits in order to self-reflect
and peer-review;
Participates in career and technical
student organization, fundraising, continuous school improvement activities,
advisory committee meetings, and proactive professional development workshops
and seminars;
Provides students with broad,
transferable concepts and job skills, such as job search, interviewing and
resume writing skills;
Assists in creating practicum and job
shadowing experiences;
Works with school’s CTE team and Central
Office to implement content literacy standards uniformly across the curricular
areas;
Collaborates with Career and Technical
Education (CTE) Team to implement the goals and objectives of the Business pathway;
Participates with CTE team members to
develop appropriate intervention and enrichment strategies for identified
students for use in the classroom and through other delivery methods (e.g.,
after-school); and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge
of school organization, goals and objectives, curriculum, interdisciplinary and
project-based teaching techniques, current trends, research, and materials of
instruction in field of specialization;
Excellent
knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning process;
Ability
to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural
education;
Knowledge
and experience with project-based learning;
Advanced skills and
experience in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and other applications;
Ability
to infuse technology into curriculum;
Ability
to work with diverse populations;
Ability
to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues,
community and other school system staff;
Ability
to teach any of the courses associated with Business Education; and
Excellent
oral and communication skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree or from a regionally accredited college
or university in Business or related field.
Minimum three (3) years professional experience in business, business
education, business management, business administration, accounting or related
field required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds
or is eligible for a Professional Certificate in Business Education issued by
the Maryland State Department of Education required. One (1) or more of the following
certifications preferred: Specialist in
Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, and/or Entrepreneurship and Small Business.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees and directs
the work of student teachers, paraprofessional educators and volunteers
assigned to the classroom, if applicable.
