POSITION SUMMARY:


  The Child Find Assistant will be responsible for monitoring, implementing and assisting in the coordination of Child Find for Parentally Placed Students in Private, Religious and Home Schools for the Special Education Department. The incumbent will serve as the parent contact and facilitator in order to maintain state and federal guidelines pertaining to school age Child Find mandates. This position will provide written communication to advise schools of referrals as well as maintaining a data base of all information with regard to timelines, policy and procedure.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Respond to parent inquiries with regard to Child Find for students parentally placed in Private, Religious and Home Schools;

Register referred students;

Enter Students into School Max Virtual School;

Assist parents by providing all referral documentation;

Communicate to base schools cases and timelines as well as monitoring access to Maryland On-line IEPs;

Develop varied and evolving departmental initiatives which might include, monitoring compliance time-lines related to initial IEP meetings, assessment and development of IEPs and Service Plans;

Assist schools in IEP Team meetings, assessments and development of Service Plans as it relates to Parentally Placed Students in Private, Religious and Home Schools;

Assist the department in meeting State and Federal requirements in Special Education process and Procedures, LRE, Budget, Staffing;

Hold meetings with area private and religious schools;

Conduct professional development as needed; and

Perform other duties as assigned.   

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Demonstrated experience in the development and management of grants and have expertise in writing IEP's;

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Power-Point, Word, Outlook, etc.), Access, and skilled using the internet for work related research; and

Excellent written and oral communications skills as well as strong human relations skills.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Special Education, Human Growth and Development or a related field from an accredited institution in, and five years of successful teaching experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform effectively in this position.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Holds or is eligible for Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrative I required.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
