POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools, the Chief Operating Officer will be responsible for the efficient operations of units and elements of the organization involving Supporting Services, which includes Building Services, Capital Programs, Food and Nutrition, Safety & Security and Transportation.  The Chief Operating Officer will report directly to the Superintendent and may represent and act in the Superintendent’s stead, as directed by the Superintendent.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Manages and oversees the Division of Supporting Services;

Develops and implements procedures and strategies relating to the efficient delivery of services;

Advises the Superintendent of Schools on policy and operational matters;

Develops and prepares recommendations to improve efficiency and further the goals of the school system;

Works with members of the Board of Education, elected officials, community representatives and business leaders to promote the interests of the school system; and

Acts for the Superintendent in his/her absence and at various meetings, conferences, and functions as needed and required.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Thorough knowledge of the Public School Laws of Maryland, the bylaws of the State Board of Education, and the policies of the Board of Education of Prince George’s County;

Thorough knowledge of Maryland Capital Programs, project management and oversight of facility operations;

A thorough understanding of organizational structure and have direct experience in effecting systemic reform;

Ability to use computer technology in an administrative and educational setting;

Excellent organizational ability; and

Demonstrated oral and written communication; and

Excellent human relation skills. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Master’s degree preferred from an accredited college or university and/or experience running the operations of a large organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Developing policy for organizational unit areas; providing guidance to Associate Superintendent of Supporting Services.
