POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the Instructional Supervisor, the Career Academy Coordinator will support the successful implementation and management of the academy model in all comprehensive high schools.  The Career Academy Coordinator has the overall responsibility for ensuring the implementation and coordination of the duties and responsibilities necessary for the success of each academy within the schools to which they are assigned.      

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Serving as the liaison between the school sites assigned and Instructional Supervisor; 

Assisting with development of consistent Academy standards;

Assisting with media relations, marketing materials, advisory boards, and general outreach as it relates to the Career Academies; 

Assisting with grant applications related to college and career readiness;

Planning, conducting, and/or coordinating professional development for school staff;

Working with and supporting teachers to ensure that the academy curriculum is followed and ascertain their instructional needs;

Assisting the Instructional Supervisor in the development and administration of the Secondary School Reform budget;

Participating in meetings related to college and career readiness, as needed;

Collecting and analyzing career academy data and preparing an annual report on the career academies;

Serving as a liaison to school staff to ensure that the Academies are implemented and that the programs of study are followed; 

Assisting school administration with academy scheduling and staffing;

Monitoring and evaluating the academic progress of students in the academies and working with the appropriate staff to develop interventions;

Planning career opportunities for students such as guest speakers, field trips, job shadowing, internships, apprenticeships, and other experiential opportunities in collaboration with school staff; 

Assisting with monitoring students engaged in experiential learning opportunities;

Assisting with the planning of and participating in vertical articulation activities with middle schools;

Working with the School’s Counseling Department to ensure that a strong system of advisement is in place to support the school’s academies and assisting with meeting the needs of students for career awareness, career assessment, career exploration, and career preparation;

Serve as a liaison to the community regarding the high school academies; and

Investigating and securing business partnerships and additional program resources, as applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Excellent project planning, budgeting, scheduling and resource management skills;

Effective time management, documentation and organizational skills;

Demonstrated ability to develop and manage teams;

Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;

Ability to present ideas in business friendly or user friendly language;

Highly self-motivated, self-directed and attentive to detail;

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks under pressure;

Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;

Strong instructional skills and a broad knowledge of secondary curriculum;

Experience in collaborative planning and providing professional development;

Demonstrated strong leadership and administrative competency; and,

Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point). 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Master's Degree or equivalent required from an accredited college or university.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate.

 

 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.
