POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the direction of the Director, the CADD Operator I performs advanced skilled drafting work and calculations in the preparation of architectural, electronic and electrical technical drawings, general drafting and other engineering drawings. An employee in this call supports its own and other departments and offices through the development of designs, plans and other drawings using computer assisted design and drafting programs, and other related electronic hardware.  Work must be accurate and is checked in process and upon completion for adherence to instruction and compliance to all applicable codes and regulations.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Performs a wide variety of work in preparing plan details and other drawings in workable form from oral instructions given by professional engineers and designers, and to perform mathematical calculations related to this work; interprets data from various sources as directed by the EOP Office Coordinator;

Works with Computer Assisted Design and Drafting programs and all related electronic  hardware required to translate a computer generated drawing into a finished printed product (blueprint);

Produces neat and accurate drawings that are checked both in process and upon completion for adherence to instruction and compliance to all applicable codes and regulations;

Provides Information Management Systems support through the development of appropriate graphics and drawings that support verbal and mathematical information.  This activity will open require the translation of CADD based drawings into pictorial objects that can be placed in databases and desktop software environments;

Provides active and accurate record keeping of all activities such as drawings and specification related to the position; maintains drafting related material inventories and develops and maintains drafting related production schedules and work load estimates; and

Performs relates work as required.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Considerable skill in the use of all drafting media and instructions of delineation and good knowledge or experience in free-hand lettering and board drawing;

Ability to interpret architectural and engineering data and prepare and plot field notes;

Knowledge of all life safety codes, national electric codes, BOCA safety codes, and standard state and county code requirements;

Thorough knowledge of architectural and engineering principles and practices particularly as they apply to drafting and design;

Considerable drafting, printing, and illustrating skills; and

Skill in human relations, communication, and effective decision-making ability.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:



 

Graduation from college preferred, with technical or trade school drafting program preferred, with significant course work in architectural and technical design, detailing ad drafting, and Computer Assisted Drafting and Design; three (3) years' experience in technical drafting, under supervision of a licensed professional; two (2) years' experience in architectural drafting under supervision of licensed professional, and three years' experience (concurrent with other experiences) in computer Assisted Drafting and Design, preferably in AutoCAD Version 13  or greater.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle (see Prince George's County Public Schools' Bulletin P-1-88 dated July 21, 1987).
