POSITION SUMMARY:
The Bus Driver Foreman performs supervisory work and
coordinates the work of Transportation Attendants and Bus Drivers. The
employee’s work involves the daily dispatching of Bus Drivers, Substitutes and
Transportation Attendants on regularly scheduled routes.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Familiarity with all facets of
the bus lot operation;
Arranging for substitute bus
drivers and bus attendants and dispatching on proper route and schedule;
Checking buses to ensure that
they are in safe mechanical condition and fully operational;
Monitoring schedules as
necessary;
Replacing bus drivers during
their absence;
Monitoring schedules as
necessary;
Assisting Transportation
Supervisor in establishing routes and schedules;
Coordinating availability of
buses for field trips in emergencies;
Dispatching maintenance crew
to disabled buses;
Attending safety meetings and
other meetings in connection with bus services;
Keeping records and preparing
reports;
Visiting schools to check on
schedules and student loads; and
Performing
related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Must be 21 years old;
Thorough knowledge
of the operation of buses;
Thorough knowledge
of driving safety and courtesy;
Thorough knowledge
of the operation of automobiles and
buses;
Thorough knowledge
of local streets and systems and all applicable laws and regulations of school
bus operation;
Ability to work
with others; and
Ability to train
and supervise people.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion
of a standard high school diploma or GED required, and considerable
driving experience some of which shall have been at the level of bus driver,
preferably supplemented by traffic safety courses and driving training courses;
or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the
required knowledge, skills and abilities;Possession of a valid Maryland Class A or B
CDL (with passenger and air brakes endorsements) motor vehicle license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, see, and drive. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, lift, pull, push, grasp, climb, balance, and conduct repetitive wrist and/or hand movements. Employee must have the ability to sit in the bus driver seat, reach the steering wheel and grasp with both hands, reach the pedals, and wear a seat belt properly. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs. and/or 100 lbs. when operating a wheelchair lift and assisting a special-needs student.
