POSITION SUMMARY:


The Building Supervisor VI is responsible for planning, performing and supervising the general cleaning, maintenance and operations of the school/center, facilities and grounds.  The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the prescribed sanitary and safe operating standards in the school/center on a 24-hour basis and maintaining logs and records as required.   The Building Supervisor VI is also responsible for the correction of minor repairs and initiating work order requests for the Department of Building Services.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Plans and supervises the general cleaning, maintenance, and daily operations of the school/center and grounds for all facilities in assigned area;

Conducts routine inspections of facilities in assigned area, reports conditions and develops action plans to correct deficiencies;

Opens, closes and secures facilities daily;

Checks boiler room to determine that all equipment is operating properly;

Cleans and makes service adjustments to boilers, oiling and greasing pumps and motors;

Inspects buildings, grounds, equipment and roof drains, and initiates work orders for needed repairs to remedy unsightly, improper or inefficient conditions;

Makes emergency repairs and adjustments such as clearing clogged plumbing fixtures and replacing electric fuses;

Supervises the maintenance of lawns and cares for grounds and shrubbery; checks playground equipment and areas for hazards and unsafe conditions;

Assists school/center administration with the daily setup and operation of the school/center, moving furniture and materials to appropriate location;

Supervises the removal of snow from walks and parking lots;

Performs, assigns and supervises the work of custodial personnel and assists in the general cleaning and upkeep of a school/center;

Inspects classrooms, offices, hallways, etc., for cleanliness and proper maintenance;

Checks to ensure that custodial personnel properly dust, polish and arrange furniture and equipment;

Inspects rest rooms for sanitary conditions and for adequate supplies;

Instructs employees in the proper use of building services supplies and equipment;

Requisitions and distributes building services materials and prepares reports on employees’ work hours and performance;

Oversees all aspects of custodial operations including timekeeping;

Initiates disciplinary procedures, as appropriate; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle (see Prince George’s County Public Schools’ Bulletin A026-85 dated October 8, 1984).

Computer skills – must be efficient in Microsoft word, excel, data entry, and email correspondence;

Demonstrated knowledge of methods, materials, and practices used in building cleaning work and in the proper use and care of mops, brooms, scrubbing brushes, floor machines and related equipment;

Knowledge of safe and efficient procedures for operating central heating plants and the ability to make minor adjustments and service repairs to the equipment;

Demonstrated and proven ability to train, assign, supervise and inspect work of subordinates; and

Ability to maintain records of time and materials and to prepare verbal and written reports. 

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Completion of a standard high school diploma or GED preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of successful progressive school system custodial experience with a minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Building Supervisor IV or above.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Possession of certificate of completion of training courses prescribed by the Department of Building Services.

Supervisory responsibilities are required.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to perform extensive walking, stooping, pushing, carrying, climbing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs. independently, and have the ability to exert force required to twist/turn equipment/tools required to perform assigned tasks. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.

The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:


Employees in this class are considered emergency personnel and therefore are expected to have working telephone service, possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation 24 hours, seven days a week. Required to work overtime to support school system and community programs and/or respond to emergency situations. Required to work during inclement weather.
