POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, the Building Maintenance Foreman II oversees a large number of building maintenance work. The incumbent of this position will manage the crews of welding, fencing, sheet metal, roofing and glazing in the process of construction and maintenance work completed at schools and other Board of Education properties. An employee in this position plans, supervises and coordinates the work of a number of field service crews engaged in building repair, remodeling and related work.  Work is evaluated for quantity and quality of production.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Oversees, plans, organizes, supervises and coordinates construction and maintenance activities to be completed by individual crews; typically engaged in sheet metal fabrication, roofing construction or repair work, school locker maintenance, fencing, glazing and playground equipment maintenance;

Ensures maintenance personnel has the equipment and supplies necessary to perform mechanical services by monitoring the use of and distributing supplies/materials and equipment as required for the maintenance staff;

Collaborates with leadership in the appraisal of current and future construction and maintenance needs as well as the establishment of priorities for specific current projects;

Controls utilization of personnel, equipment and materials through accurate project estimates as well as the establishment of work standards necessary for the full utilization of personnel, materials and equipment;

Schedules and allocates personnel to fit the needs of rolling day-to-day projects; shifting staff members, as needed, to meet the objectives of the work plans and to ensure that deadlines are met;

Provides training and support to team members; reviews the work of assigned personnel as appropriate;

Evaluates assigned personnel in alignment with guidelines and procedures;

Maintains current knowledge of recent development in the trades areas supervised and instructs journeymen and apprentice tradesmen in methods and techniques recognized by the trade as well as rules and procedures established by the school system or other government agencies relative to the practice of specific trades; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Thorough knowledge of the materials, methods and techniques employed in the trades supervised;

Thorough knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques useful in effecting full utilization of personnel, equipment and materials available for assigned projects; T

Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trades supervised;

Ability to make accurate materials, time, personnel and equipment estimates for specific projects as well as to gain full utilization of such production factors;

Ability to supervise and provide guidance in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale;

Ability to maintain a variety of records relative to work performed as well as to periodically summarize or extract activity reports form such records;

Ability to develop and present ideas clearly and concisely orally or in writing;

Strong computer skills in Microsoft and Google Applications, Virtual Meeting Tools, and online correspondence.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Graduation from high school required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in building construction and maintenance including responsible lead or supervisory work in the building trades required.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with a driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. (See Prince George’s County Public School’s Bulletin P-1-88 dated July 21, 1987.) 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Provides guidance and supervision to assigned personnel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
