POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the direction of the Central Garage Services Supervisor, the Automotive Parts Manager performs manual and clerical work in the receipt, storage, control and issuance of automotive parts.  The incumbent should have working knowledge of parts items and catalogue schematics relative to numerous makes and models of vehicles. Work is performed under general supervision and success is measured by the efficiency with which the controlled items are identified and made available to automotive maintenance personnel.     

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Receives and checks shipments of automotive parts for compliance with purchase order standards and price, bins parts, rearranges bins or constructs new facilities as necessary to store and control additional automotive parts items;

Participates in periodic and special inventories; provides custodial services in the storeroom area;

Answers telephone inquiries relative to parts availability and works with warehouse manager and/or maintenance personnel in researching catalogues as necessary to identify specific automotive parts;

Maintains perpetual inventory records by posting receipts and dispersals as well as figuring balance of items in stock;

Initiates requisitions for replenishing stock relative to pre-established order points;

Contacts vendors for special orders; operates a delivery truck or other vehicle as necessary to pick up emergency items from vendors; and

Perform related duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Working knowledge of automotive parts warehousing and inventory methods and procedures;

Knowledge of standard manufacturer cataloging schemes, preferably including considerable knowledge of one or more parts schematics for a specific manufacturer;

Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions;

Ability to maintain complex inventory records covering several thousand items;

Ability to make arithmetic calculations as necessary for checking purchase order extensions;

Ability to establish and maintain effective and pleasant working relationships with superiors, vendors, and automotive maintenance personnel;

Ability to lift moderately heavy articles, and to do considerable standing and walking; and

Must be in good physical condition.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

High School diploma or GED with responsible experience as an automotive parts clerk; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle License with a driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.  Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class "B" with endorsements "P" (Passenger) and "S" (School Bus) required or the ability to obtain within the probationary period for new employees or within 6 months of obtaining the position for current PGCPS employees; CDL Class "A" with "P" (Passenger) and "S" (School Bus and Air Brake) preferred. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications are strongly encouraged.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
