POSITION SUMMARY:


  The Assistant Building Supervisor II performs supervisory duties over a night cleaner crew engaged in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings; does related work as required. A Night Foreman normally supervises a crew of more than three Cleaners performing tasks in a secondary school. An employee in this class is responsible for planning and supervising cleaning and related building operation activities at a school building during the evening hours. Assignments and general direction are received from a Building Supervisor.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Planning and supervising the general cleaning, maintenance, and daily operation of a school physical plant, and grounds for all facilities in assigned area;

Conduct routine inspections of facilities in assigned area and report conditions and develop action plans to correct deficiencies;

Opening, closing, and securing facilities daily;

Checking boiler room to determine that all equipment is operating properly;

Cleaning and making service adjustments to boilers, oiling and greasing pumps and motors;

Inspecting buildings, grounds, and equipment, roof drains, and initiating work orders for needed repairs to remedy unsightly, improper or inefficient conditions;

Making emergency repairs and adjustments such as clearing clogged plumbing fixtures and replacing electric fuses;

Supervising the maintenance of lawns and caring for grounds and shrubbery; Checking playground equipment and areas for hazards and unsafe conditions;

Assisting school administration with the daily setup and operation of the school, moving furniture and materials to appropriate location;

Supervising the removal of snow from walks and parking lots;

Performing, assigning and supervising the work of custodial personnel and assisting in the general cleaning upkeep of a school plant;

Inspecting classrooms, offices, hallways, etc., for cleanliness and proper maintenance;

Checking to ensure that subordinates properly dust, polish and arrange furniture and equipment;

Inspecting rest rooms for sanitary conditions and for adequate supplies;

Instructing employees in the proper use of building services supplies and equipment; and

Requisitioning and distributing building services materials and preparing reports on employees' work hours and performance;

Oversee all aspects of custodial operations including timekeeping;

Initiate disciplinary procedures; and

All other duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle (see Prince George's County Public School's Bulletin A-26-85 dated October 8, 1984) ;

Computer skills - show efficiency in Microsoft word, excel, data entry, and email correspondence;

Demonstrated knowledge of methods, materials, and practices used in building cleaning work and in the proper use and care of mops, brooms, scrubbing brushes, floor machines and related equipment;

Knowledge of safe and efficient procedures for operating central heating plants and the ability to make minor adjustments and service repairs to the equipment;

Demonstrated and proven ability to train, assign, supervise and inspect work of subordinates; and

Ability to maintain records of time and materials and to prepare verbal and written reports; good physical health.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Completion of a standard High School diploma or GED; 2 years successful progressive school system custodial experience with a  minimum 1 year experience at Grade  10 or above including 1 year supervisory  experience,  Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Possession of certificate of completion of training courses prescribed by the Department of Plant Operations.


 

 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

Some supervisory responsibilities are required.


 

 



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
