POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the general supervision of the Director, Food Services, the Account Clerk I performs clerical tasks of moderate difficulty in processing transactions and recording related accounting information. Employees in this class follow established procedures but exercises judgment in performing accounting clerical operations. Work may also require the preparation of regular and special reports and include the use of a typewriter.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Processing daily food service reports for an assigned block of schools in order to meet monthly report deadlines;

Auditing and balancing daily and monthly reports from cafeteria managers; verifying and reconciling entries on reports;

Contacting cafeteria personnel concerning errors or to follow-up on overdue reports;

Maintaining various records necessary to establish manual controls over data processing output of the accounting records;

Answering inquiries from cafeteria personnel about accounting procedures;

Reconciling bank statements and preparing reports for transfer of funds to the main school lunch account;

Filing and performing other normal office duties as required, such as opening, sorting and preparing for processing daily mail receipts; and

Performing related work as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Some knowledge of modern clerical accounting practices;

Some knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment, business  arithmetic and English;

Some familiarity with the operation of bookkeeping or accounting machines desirable;

Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions;

Ability to write legibly;

Ability to work well with others; and

Must have clerical aptitude, mental alertness, tact and courtesy.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

High school graduate with some clerical account-keeping experience including or supplemented by coursework in typing, bookkeeping, or other tabulating machines; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
