POSITION SUMMARY:


  The Academic Dean will collaborate with administrators, teachers, and parents to ensure that all students are successful and develop strong character skills to help them succeed.  The Academic Dean works to ensure that every child reaches ambitious targets for school-wide levels of mastery.  The Academic Dean coaches a portfolio of teachers and frequently owns a particular subject or grade level.     

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Work with Principal, Team Curriculum and Talent Development to plan the instructional schedule and curriculum to be most effective for your students;

Work with the principal to regularly analyze school wide data, plan interventions and make curricular adjustments;

Manage the interim assessment process to ensure that teachers are using data to drive instruction;

Run high-impact interim assessment data debriefs;

Design and monitor high-impact interventions for struggling students;

Provide hands-on coaching to a portfolio of teachers and help them master the essentials of effective instruction;

Work to ensure that each child is progressing at least one grade level or below proficient to proficient or reaching ambitious targets for school wide levels of proficiency/mastery;

Track homework completion rates by class and by students and intervene if necessary with teachers and parents;

Observe lessons and provide targeted and actionable feedback to teachers;

Model great instruction in your own teaching; 

Plan units and lessons with teachers or groups of teachers and provide feedback on lessons, units, and assessments;

Design and run high-quality professional development sessions; 

Write thorough, thoughtful, actionable annual growth plans for all the teachers in your portfolio at mid-year and end-of-year;

Serve as an active member of the school leadership team to support school-wide success; and

Help teacher leaders (coaches and grade level chairs) grow their leadership skills. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Experience in planning and conducting in-service activities; 

Strong instructional, classroom management and discipline skills;

Proven track record of meeting extremely high standards for student achievement;

Extensive knowledge of the school system's instructional and supervision practices and trends;

Proven knowledge in a specific content area;

Experience in collaborative planning and providing professional development;

Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the budgetary, scheduling, and operational support programs;

Excellent interpersonal/human relations skills; and

Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Master's degree from an accredited college or university, with an emphasis in supervision, educational administration, elementary/secondary school curriculum; five (5) years teaching experience required.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate, Administrator I Certification required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Evaluates and supervises school staff and operations in the absence of the Principal.
