UPPER MARLBORO, MD – The Prince George’s County Board of Education’s Joint Task Force on Educational Equity for Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) released its final report of findings and recommendations at last night's Board Meeting.

The 10-member task force, established in April 2017, was comprised of Board members and PGCPS administration staff. The report includes 21 recommendations in four areas based on academic research to incorporate equity into the school system’s strategic plan.

“I commend all members of the task force for their commitment to examining gaps in student achievement and providing direction for guiding our school system closer to its strategic goals,” said Dr. Segun C. Eubanks, Board Chair. “We look forward to receiving input from all stakeholders as we seek to make Prince George’s County Public Schools a model for educational equity.”

    The report’s major findings included:

    • Establishing policies related to community schools and digital equity.
    • Conducting an equity analysis of speciality programs, charter schools and lottery admissions.
    • Enhancing before/after school and summer enrichment programs to increase learning opportunities for at-risk students.
    • Studying the viability of magnet Career and Technical Education (CTE) high schools across the county, an extended school day and academic year, distance learning, and expedited graduation track for over-age/under-credited students.
    • Advocating for increased childcare funding and partnerships, and against citizenship requirements for CTE state-based licenses.
    • Supporting the administration of Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) tests to English Language Learners in their native language.
