Storybook Characters Come Alive at Bradbury Heights Elementary

The Day the Crayons quit Bradbury Heights ES held their storybook character parade on Friday, October 28.  After trying to decide on a favorite book, teachers chose to be crayons from Drew Dawalt's The Day the Crayon Quit.  Students immediately started recalling the story as they saw the crayons around the building.  Students and staff chose a variety of characters including Doc. McStuffin and an old favorite, The Cat in the Hat.

Character Chaos - Celebrating Reading at Riverdale ES

Character Chaos - Riverdale ES Riverdale Elementary School students and staff celebrated reading by dressing up as a favorite storybook character. The entire school team marched around the school showing off their books and outfits. This is one of the many initiatives implemented at the school to promote "Literacy for a Lifetime".

'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' Author Jeff Kinney Visits Potomac Landing Elementary

Jeff Kinney, New York Times best-selling author and illustrator, recently visited Potomac Landing Elementary School -- his alma mater -- to release his latest book, Diary of Wimpy Kid: Double Down. During his visit, Kinney shared memories of his experiences at Potomac Landing, distributed autographed copies of his new release and donated 100 books to the school.




Gwynn Park HS Student Represents MD at the World Food Prize Global Youth Institute

Isaiah Nance represents MD at the World Food Prize Global Youth Institute Isaiah Nance, Gwynn Park HS Academy of Environmental Studies Senior, represented Maryland at the 30th Annual World Food Prize Global Youth Institute in Des Moines, Iowa. Isaiah was one of 200 student leaders from across the country selected to present research on how he can fight hunger as a future leader.
